A Pig's Tale: Pig Named Six Seven Granted Clemency by Miami Dade County Mayor.
While perhaps not at the equivalent scale as pardoning holiday birds, but the Miami-Dade County mayor experienced a presidential-style act this week by ritually sparing the life of a pig named Six Seven.
Daniella Levine Cava carried out the annual tradition at the Cuban-themed Latin Cafe 2000 in the core of Miamiâs Little Havana neighborhood.
âThe swine has done no wrong. Clemency is justified for her. She has committed zero crimes,â declared Levine Cava in a speech with inescapable allusions to the vast quantity of pardons issued since the beginning of a second term in office.
âExcept perhaps for eating 6 or 7 apples per day,â Levine Cava continued. âI hope she experiences a long and happy life away from worry.â
The gathering, either celebrating or rejecting the area's customary feast of consuming swine during the holidays, was founded to replicate the traditional fowl clemency at the White House.
The animal, donated by a Coral Gables firefighter, was christened after the modern linguistic fad of young people exclaiming âsix sevenâ â inspired by a hip-hop line â often seemingly at random. The craze became so ubiquitous that a prominent word reference recently named â6-7â its top term for the year.
A Future Secured
This particular pig is now scheduled to spend its days at a countryside refuge âaway from grills and cookwareâ, according to the ceremony's official statement.
âThe annual pig pardon has become a cherished method to kick off the holiday season,â said the event host, in a notably cheerful message.
âIt captures the character of Miami: happy, diverse, and grounded in customs that unite the community. Annually, we are delighted to mark heritage and mercy in a way unique to Miami.â
Guests enjoyed a vegetarian menu of spinach croquetas and Cuban coffee as they celebrated Six Sevenâs big moment.
