Countless Gather at Opening Israeli Burial Ceremony Following Captive Remains Were Repatriated
When Michel Illouz carefully navigated through the throngs beneath the cypress trees and palm trees at the cemetery in Ra'anana, a city located approximately 20 kilometers north of Tel Aviv, he showed appreciation to countless visitors as possible.
Previously he offered an invitation to the nation's citizens to join his family in mourning his young adult son, Guy, whose body had been brought back from Gaza on Monday.
Massive Turnout
Thousands responded the call. They lined the streets, followed the hearse carrying his mortal coil, and converged on the memorial grounds in such significant numbers that the primary scheme to stage the ceremony indoors had to be abandoned.
As an alternative, the gathering was organized in the open air, set to the chorus of singing birds.
Important Moment
This marked the initial burial ceremony since the final two dozen captives were returned from Gaza, along with several deceased individuals. A further 21 of the fallen captives continue to be lost, but at the very minimum this family now had a particular spot to express sorrow and commemorate their son, according to companions.
Tragic Story
Guy Illouz, a musician and audio engineer, had been targeted in his posterior at the Nova music festival during the Hamas assault on October 7, 2023. Before the tragedy unfolded, he had reached out to his father from a sheltered spot to share his affection; to bid farewell. He was taken hostage, and per those held with him, he later died from his wounds due to medical neglect.
Loved One's Insight
A trusted companion of the Illouz family, Michelle, fifty years old, mentioned that it had been crucial to them that individuals came today. The Illouz family members, encompassing Guy's female relatives and brother, had practiced the mourning period, the week-long period of bereavement, after being informed of his demise in December of the previous year. But now that Guy was at long last back with them, they needed "caring community again."
"This brings me comfort that you joined us," stated Michel. "This means everything to us."
Dad's Eulogy
He turned to his son. "My dear Guy," he expressed, using a affectionate nickname, "it's challenging for me to imagine the time to come without you. They snatched you from me – they killed you – they captured my essence and took my sense of self and killed my inner being and heart."
"There's a void within me since that meaningless attack by those malicious militants when they seized you and told you to turn around, and then simply fired two unnecessary shots into your dorsal area."
Last Farewell
"Thus I stood this morning, heading toward Abu Kabir forensic institute to verify your remains and say goodbye. They removed the white sheet, and the initial sight I noticed was that smile of yours, that hopeful nature, that peaceful presence and nobility that so characterized you."
"I reached out, tried to smell you, caressed every bone in your body. I looked at you, I was in private with you, and yes, I felt with absolute certainty that it was you. Yes, I know, Guy-shuk, that you've come back home. You've returned to your family's embrace, to all your friends, and to the countless people whose hearts your narrative touched."
Familial Courage
During the initial segment of the memorial, Illouz had dedicated all his efforts on supporting his smaller offspring. He gently touched the locks of his female children, held his son, demonstrated love and maintained composure for them. But then his feelings emerged.
Cherished Memories
"I'll miss so much traveling with you through this land, sensing your presence, enjoying your artistic creations, resting on elevated terrain and igniting the flame to make coffee the way only you mastered – 'Papa, do you see the coffee foam? You have to heat it slowly, let the bubbles form, then boil it again. Stir the coffee with rotating movements' – and then your smile while tasting the beverage and your pleasure in every particular taste."
"Before I left Abu Kabir today, I kept my promise. I observed you, absorbed your presence one last time, and yes, I planted a kiss on the front of your head. I was managed to observe your handsomeness even in the situation in which you returned to us."
Ultimate Expression
"My dear son, I care for you deeply, I love you. I will long for you every second and minute of my life. Find peace, my beloved son, relax after a journey of 24 months through worlds unknown to us. I love you, my beloved son, my treasured initial offspring."
