Despite all excitement surrounding the Sin City Grand Prix, McLaren's lead driver is maintaining a level head regarding his prospects of securing his maiden world title.

Norris currently holds a two-dozen point advantage over teammate Oscar Piastri and leads Max Verstappen by nearly fifty points, with just up to 83 points available across the final three races. However, after staging a remarkable comeback from 34 points behind Piastri after the Zandvoort race in August, Norris is concentrating on performing with the clinical precision that propelled him to the top of the standings.

"It can quickly go the opposite way once more even though I don't want it to," he commented. "That's racing, as we all know. You can also have luck. Other times you end up unlucky. Whatever it may be. It's not worth becoming overjoyed or thinking about it. I still do see it as something that's quite far away."

Norris has found his best form at a crucial moment—having struggled with the vehicle in the first part of the campaign—at the same time that his teammate has shed the controlled, almost perfect composure that had for so long made him seem to be a future title winner. Notably, Norris kept a impressive level of composure all along, insisting despite challenges—like his withdrawal from the Dutch GP—that he would adhere to his gameplan and approach every outing with the same unwavering focus on specifics. This approach has paid off.

All the while, McLaren have gone to no little effort to attempt to maintain a fair competition for their pair of racers, and it has at times been a rather difficult experience, most notably at Monza when the squad instructed the Australian to cede second place to his teammate following he had lost the spot due to a delayed tire change. Certain spectators did not take well to what was seen as McLaren unnecessarily manipulating their competitors.

The championship leader has claimed victory in the last two grands prix, in Mexico City and São Paulo, and was booed on the podium at both, yet he remained unmoved. "When you're on top, many people try to undermine you. They don't like seeing you winning. I consider it a good thing," he said.

"It makes me laugh. When I was on the winner's stage in Interlagos, I really loved it. It was very satisfying. At last you sense that you're doing something right.

"I don't mind, provided that I come out on top. If I feel like I'm doing it the right manner, and I think I am, as long as I am confident I am dedicating hard work into remaining true to myself and similar principles, then I'm not too fussed about the rest of it."

Vegas, on the other hand, needs to be mastered, and it is not a track suited to the McLaren. The layout has characteristics with Montreal and Azerbaijan: low downforce, chilly conditions, and low grip. These are the only two circuits in the current championship where McLaren have been unable to claim at least one podium place, and Norris was circumspect once more about their chances in Nevada. Still, his task in the immediate future is straightforward: end the race in front of Piastri and the championship tally he requires will follow.

Friday Running Sees Mixed Results for Championship Rivals

The Ferrari driver topped the times in first practice on what was remained a sandy and extremely slippery surface. The Williams racer was second, with the Red Bull star in fourth, Norris sixth, and the Australian eighth. In the more representative evening session of FP2, Norris was fastest from the Mercedes of the Italian rookie, with Piastri down in fourteenth; however, the practice was interrupted for almost all of the final 20 minutes of track time to check a suspected unsecured drain cover at turn 17.

The issue is treated with caution on a street circuit where, at the first Nevada GP staged in 2023, a loose drain cover struck Carlos Sainz's Ferrari, heavily harming it and leading to the practice to be ended.

The eight-time constructors' champions have revealed that their team principal Toto Wolff has sold a 15% stake in his investment firm, representing a 5% share in the team, to US tycoon the cybersecurity magnate. Kurtz is the chief executive and creator of the digital protection firm CrowdStrike. Wolff will stay on as team principal and may receive as much as £230 million from the deal, with the Brackley-based outfit having been appraised at £4.57 billion, a new high for an Formula 1 constructor.
