Iran Claims Assault on US Base in Bahrain, Amid Widespread Retaliatory Strikes.
Iran's military claims to have hit a American military facility in Bahrain, as Iran launched strikes throughout the Middle East in response for a significant and continuing assault targeting the nation by the United States and Israeli forces.
Huge plumes of black smoke were seen rising from an vicinity close to the headquarters of the US Navy's Fifth Fleet in Bahrain's capital, Manama. The extent of any impact is unclear and the US has not commented.
Airspace Engagements
Elsewhere across the region, the UAE, the State of Qatar and Kuwait - which all house US military bases - reported they have engaged and destroyed missiles in their airspace.
In Doha, Qatar's defence ministry stated it had intercepted several missiles seemingly aimed at the al-Udeid air base, the biggest US military installation in the Middle East.
IRGC Statement
The Iranian Revolutionary Guard said in a statement it was attacking US bases and assets as part of operation "Truthful Promise 4", in response for the attack on the Islamic Republic initiated by the United States and its ally Israel on Saturday morning.
That initial attack - executed at approximately 09:15 Iran time - has so far targeted sites linked to the the regime, with US President Donald Trump urging the Iranian people to revolt against the leadership.
Additional Developments
In the State of Israel, sirens were heard nationwide after the Israel Defense Forces reported it had identified an incoming Iranian missile barrage.
The defence ministry of the UAE announced that the nation has been subjected to a "a blatant attack involving Iranian ballistic missiles".
"Emirati air defenses dealt with the missiles with notable success and destroyed a series of missiles," it added.
It said missile fragments landed in a neighborhood in the capital, resulting in some property damage and the death of one civilian.
The US Air Force is stationed at the Al Dhafra base, to the south of Abu Dhabi, along with the Emirati Air Force.
