Manchester United Poised to Secure German Forward Lea Schüller from Bayern Munich
Manchester United are on the verge of completing the signing for prolific Germany forward Lea Schüller on a permanent transfer from Bayern Munich.
A Major Signing for the WSL Side
The forward, with six months remaining on her deal, is known as a prolific goalscorer for both club and country. She has netted over 100 goals for Bayern and scored 54 times in 82 appearances for her country. This signing is viewed as a marquee coup for the WSL team.
Departure from Bayern was expected after she appeared to be fighting back tears while thanking the club's supporters following a victory over Bayer Leverkusen this month.
It was reported in late December that the German women's top flight was losing one of its leading strikers. Per reports, all the paperwork for the transfer are now finalised.
Consistent Goalscoring to Boost United's Forward Line
The experienced striker's signing is expected to provide a major boost to United’s forward line. Schüller has been highly consistent with her finishing in the Bundesliga.
- For seven consecutive seasons, including the most recent campaign, she reached at least a double-digit tally of league goals.
- She claimed the Golden Boot in 2021-22 season with a haul of 16 goals.
Gathering Steam at Old Trafford
The acquisition of the German international comes at a time when United appear to be building momentum.
Recent on-pitch successes include securing a place in the European knockout phase playoffs as a seeded team and a victory in the Conti Cup quarter-finals.
Off the pitch, the winter break has seen further activity:
- The signing of Swedish right-back Hanna Lundkvist on a multi-year deal.
- The new deal for Japan midfielder Hinata Miyazawa, who has become fan favourite since arriving in 2023.
On the midfielder's extension, a senior figure stated: “Miyazawa is now a critical part to the way we play. Her understanding of the game and skill enables her and the team to control and dictate play from the middle of the park.”
Lundkvist, who has joined from a side from the American league, added: “You can sense how much the club have progressed in the last few years, playing in one of the strongest leagues in the world and now featuring in the Champions League.”
