Shock as Beloved South African DJ Killed in the Heart of Johannesburg.
A popular South African radio and club DJ has been shot dead in the country's largest city Johannesburg, triggering widespread grief across a country battling entrenched crime.
Warrick Stock, popularly known as DJ Warras, was shot and killed in the city centre on the afternoon of Tuesday.
Police said the 40-year-old presenter was confronted by three individuals, with one opened fire on him before escaping on foot.
The purpose of the shooting has not been established and no suspects have been apprehended have been made, police said.
Details of the Attack
Authorities indicated that Stock was attacked as he was exiting a premises near the city center landmark.
He had devoted time at the site supervising the setup of security systems, which had been controversially occupied by unidentified individuals, it was reported.
"It is alleged the victim was approached by three unknown suspects after parking his vehicle, and they began shooting at him before running from the location on foot," a police statement said.
CCTV footage reportedly depicted a suspect with dreadlocks and dressed in what appeared to be a security uniform shooting on Stock before making his escape.
The DJ sought to escape after he was shot but fell down on the opposite side of the road.
Officials noted that Stock had an unused firearm and no items were stolen during the incident.
Key evidence, like bullet casings, were found at the crime scene.

Police have appealed anyone who saw the event who may have have information to assist with the investigation.
"Evidence suggests they traveled on foot after the attack, and officers have been attempting to locate them to establish their location," remarked an authority figure.
Outpouring of Grief
His sister, a close relative, expressed the family was struggling to process his death.
"Words fail me. I am shattered," she stated.
"We know he was a champion for numerous individuals. He spoke out bravely about subjects not many people were willing to tackle. This is a profound tragedy."
She appealed to the public to not sharing explicit content from the scene, explaining this was an incredibly difficult time, above all for Stock's children.

In a statement, the broadcaster he worked for affirmed Stock was known for his presence, approachability and intelligent commentary, adding that his legacy "will endure".
