Supporters Call for Custody of Man Who Seized Ariana Grande
Passionate followers of the pop star are urging that a man who breached a fence and touched the performer during the recent Wicked: For Good launch be arrested or deported from Singapore.
A widely shared footage reveals the individual from Australia shoving aside media personnel and rushing toward Grande while the performers walked down a promenade flanked by fans.
Co-star Cynthia Erivo quickly guided the shocked performer away from Mr Wen, who was observed being removed of the gathering by guards.
Mr Wen stated on Instagram late on Thursday that he was "let go after being arrested", though legal records showed that he was due to appear on the following morning. It is unknown if he was faced legal action.
Pattern of Event Invasions
This is not the first time for Mr Wen, who describes himself as a "Notorious Troublemaker", has invaded a concert or event. His Instagram account features recordings of him disturbing other star-studded functions, including jumping on stage at the pop singer's Sydney show in recently and in a comparable manner during The Chainsmokers event in the area last December.
"There needs to be action enforced against him as this is clearly a criminal offence," stated an Instagram follower, in a message to a video Mr Wen posted of his behavior.
"This appears to be a habit... why are you not imprisoned?" another Instagram user remarked.
Supporters Express Concern Over the Star's Safety
Numerous followers accused Mr Wen for "triggering past anxiety" Grande, who had revealed suffering from PTSD after a terrorist explosion at the end of her May 2017 performance in Manchester, killing 22 people and wounding hundreds.
"After everything she's faced... including the Manchester attack, you considered it entertaining to rush the barrier?" wrote a further message on Instagram.
Some supporters also questioned security officers at the gathering for not being adequately prepared; while others demanded social media platforms to ban Mr Wen's content.
Reaction and Premiere Information
In clips shared widely, Grande appeared startled when she was grabbed by the individual. Her co-stars Michelle Yeoh and Erivo can be observed consoling her while Mr Wen was led out by guards.
Grande has remained silent on the incident, and the remaining proceedings carried on uninterrupted.
Many of attendees had assembled in a mass of emerald and rose at the Wicked: For Good international premiere in a Singapore mall, including a number who had stood in line for as long as a significant duration before it started.
The film, to be released on 21 November, is the sequel of a dual interpretation of the acclaimed Broadway and West End production Wicked, which focuses on the unexpected bond between two distinct sorceresses.
The musical itself is a derivative of the classic book The Wonderful Wizard of Oz.
Grande, who plays the character Glinda Glinda, was decked out in a light pink glittering gown at the gathering while Erivo, who acts as the wicked witch, wore a black tube gown featuring roses.
They were accompanied by fellow actor Jeff Goldblum.
The first movie, Wicked, was the top-earning motion picture of 2024 in the UK, and received a dozen award recognitions, securing a pair for outstanding attire and production design.
