The network's Premier New Show of 2025 Earns a Major Renewal for Two More Seasons.
During the fall season, the late-night programming block debuted a new season of its offbeat hit, Smiling Friends. However, shortly thereafter, the network launched a fresh animated series with a distinctly unique tone. Haha, You Clowns emerged as gentle and comforting, in the spirit of a cartoon version of a contemplative talk show. At a time often characterized by bleakness, this show's wholesomeness found an audience and propelled it a surprise hit.
A Significant Investment
On December 18th, the network revealed exciting news: Haha, You Clowns has been picked up for a further two seasons. This gives showrunner Joe Cappa significant creative freedom to develop the story of the Campbell family. The series follows three respectful teenage brothers whose defining trait is their deep love for their single father, with Cappa voicing for all four main characters.
"My deepest thanks go to the viewers of the show who gave *Haha, You Clowns* a chance and spread the word," remarked Cappa. "It's thrilling that I get to hang out at the Campbell household for the foreseeable future."
A President's Endorsement
Accompanying the news laudits from Adult Swim president Michael Ouweleen, who called the series as "profoundly sincere and oddly captivating." He shouted out the fans who discovered the show and championed its uniquely offbeat style.
"All of you got behind this new show, championed for it on social media, and expanded its audience week over week so we could approve not one, but two more seasons," noted Ouweleen. "To quote: 'You are strong! You are loved!'"
A Wholesome Alternative
Earlier this fall, Haha, You Clowns was described as "a comforting antidote" to more cynical adult animated fare. It offers something unexpectedly cozy about observing this charming family go about their everyday routines.
In earlier interviews, creator Joe Cappa expressed his desire to move the comedy genre beyond its current layer of irony. He linked this trend to the rise of certain blockbuster franchises.
“There's this level of irony that we keep returning to,” noted Cappa. “It feels as if we have to know we’re the cleverest viewer in the room when we're watching stuff. I feel like we've been doing this for too long, and we must laugh at something different now. It's time for comedy to grow.”
Future Seasons
Now, with Haha, You Clowns set to continue, Cappa has the opportunity to help usher in that comedic shift. At a minimum, the renewal ensures audiences additional episodes to experience the warm glow of the beloved Campbell clan.
The first season's conclusion of Haha, You Clowns is scheduled to air on December 21st. All episodes is ready to watch on HBO Max.
